Integrated Operations and Digital Ticketing for Urban Mobility

In Germany’s oldest city, Stadtwerke Trier (SWT) partnered with INIT to modernise ticketing and operational control across its urban bus network. The project focused on integrating electronic fare collection, real-time vehicle tracking and passenger information into one cohesive system. Operating a fleet of approximately 100 vehicles, Trier required a digital platform capable of enhancing reliability and supporting sustainable urban mobility objectives.

INIT equipped 100% of the bus fleet with modern on-board computers and ticketing systems. Network-wide Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) technology provides real-time tracking, feeding into a central control centre responsible for dispatch, regulation and incident management.

The Intermodal Transport Control System (ITCS) enables proactive service management, improving punctuality and reducing disruption impacts. At the same time, electronic ticketing and back-office systems deliver secure revenue management and flexible fare configuration.

Passengers benefit from accurate, real-time arrival predictions delivered through stop displays and digital channels. Greater transparency improves confidence in public transport and supports modal shift objectives.

The integrated platform establishes a scalable digital foundation, enabling SWT to adapt to future mobility innovations and evolving passenger expectations. Trier demonstrates how medium-sized cities can achieve meaningful transformation through coordinated system integration and strategic partnership.
